The Works

CONGRÈS International des Américanistes. Compte-Rendu     de la seconde session Luxemburg - 1877. Tome Premier,     Paris: Maisonneuve, 1878.

This volume is a collection of papers presented at the Congrès International des Americanistes.

Held in Luxembourg in 1877, the main purpose of this meeting of scholars was to contribute to ethnographic, linguistic and historical studies on the two Americas, especially in the pre-Columbian period.

In the general list of Members of the Congress appear the names of Dom Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil, and Silva Paranhos, General Consul of Brazil in Liverpool.

The volume contains the study by Gabriel Gravier on Paul Gaffarel's work entitled "La Découverte du Brésil par les Français", both works being used by Capistrano de Abreu to refute the "French claims" to the Descoberta do Brasil.
